GR 16 A passage between two worlds

Collado del Santo

Sierra Ferrera is a great natural wall 20 km long that divides the eastern part of Sobrarbe into two sectors with very distinct landscapes. To the North, the limestone massif of Cotiella gives rise to deep gorges and canyons, rugged ochre mountains with steep cliffs, caves, karst springs and dense green forests.

However, in the South, the grey marl and clay landscapes of La Fueva alternate heights with gullies and torrents, creating a low, extremely irregular but much drier and intensely humanized landscape. The Santo Mountain Pass makes it possible to cross this apparently impregnable rocky barrier that divides both worlds and, incidentally, unravel part of the complicated geological structure of Mount Montañesa and the Ferrera Mountains.

A long journey to see a little known corner of the Geopark with the incentive of visiting the magnificent church of San Juan de Toledo, declared of a Site of Cultural Interest.
