2nd Sobrarbe Geopark Seminar: Geological Research and Didactic Resources

The present edition was held on 24th, 25th and 26th October in Boltaña. The seminar consisted in 9 lectures and 2 round-table discussions. Two guided tours were also planned to the surroundings of Puértolas-Bestué and also to Ordesa.

During the seminar, the trans-bordering area of Pirineos-Monte Perdido was specially mentioned, being declared UNESCO World Heritage in 1997, and being twice catalogued due to both its natural and cultural values. Therefore, two of the lectures were devoted to “The Geomorphology of the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park” and to “Le Parc National des Pyrénées and World Heritage in the Luz-Gavarnie Valley”.

113 attendants enrolled this 2nd seminar, most of them came from Aragón, but some others came from Madrid, Barcelona, Navarra and France. 30 of the attendants were Secondary School teachers on the subject of Biology-Geology from the whole province, interested in learning about the Sobrarbe geological environment, in order to use that knowledge as a didactic tool. This seminar has been validated as a two credit subject by the CPR (Centre of Teachers and Resources) in Graus.

54 people took part in the guided tour planned on 24th to the surroundings of Puértolas and Guaso, and the tour planned on Saturday to the Ordesa Valley was attended by 90 people.

Samedi 25 octobre 2008 Dimanche 26 octobre 2008 Mrs. Natividad Mendiara Callén, General Director of Professional Training and Continuous Learning, attended to the closing ceremony of the Seminar, interesting herself in the initiatives and worries of the Secondary School teachers of Biology and Geology, concerning geology didactics and the descendent presence of this subject in Secondary School syllabus, a fact which is dramatically affecting the number of Geology students at universities.

During the seminar, some regional gastronomic products tasting evenings were organized, in order to collaborate in their promotion and popularization among the public attending the seminar.
